About Erin

As a twenty-seven year resident, I have watched District 9 blossom from a sleepy, affordable community east of the Lake to a much sought-after “best new place to live.” In 1992, I arrived in Dallas for a job at SMU. I put 500 miles on my car driving around neighborhoods in search of a place I could call home. I found East Dallas' Casa View to be the place that fit me best. Right away I knew I would never live anywhere else. My street was home to original homeowners, brand-new families, mixed ethnic groups and mixed families. In short, a diverse community and what Dallas’ District 9 has represented for a long time.

Ten years later, when my partner Patti and I needed a larger home, I couldn’t go very far. Patti and I have been proud Old Lake Highlands residents for 17 years. We know our neighbors, and we love our community and know how special it is.

Our community is expanding again and becoming a “hot” real estate area - but we need to be mindful of those who know what District 9 is at heart. We must embrace the Little Forest Hills chicken owners, our Casa View panaderías, the lower Garland Road renaissance, and the needs of Upper Garland Road. I’ve met the incredible people of District 9 when cleaning up the lake and working on solutions for our homeless population. Like Patti and I, many neighbors are proud of District 9 but are getting frustrated by a lack of accountability and progress for all. It’s time to come together and demand more. We need more funding to preserve, maintain, and dredge White Rock Lake, the jewel of our district. We deserve more affordable housing for those in the greatest need. The future of our district requires more oversight of our hard-earned tax dollars.

District 9 had many years of mild indifference followed by a councilman who cared. What we need now is a fighter and advocate for every neighborhood and every neighbor. I have fought for underrepresented and ignored populations for  most of my life and I want to continue this necessary work on the Dallas City Council . I hope you’ll join me in this journey as I work to earn your support and your vote on May 4th. Thank you.
